waterclock

February 10, 2007

The world’s a waterclock
whose every drop teems with galleys
and destroyers. The pool at the base

is sanctuary, years of peace, where men
sometimes stare through the glass
and wonder where the water came from.

The wheel represents an age of aries:
chariots splinter on scythed axels,
soldiers chase the horizon
and roll it back like a wave. Lastly

there are ages of fall.
